CLOSED CAPTIONING

Providing digital transcription with time code, closed captioning and subtitling.

CLOSED CAPTIONING & SUBTITLING

Subtitles and captions are often used interchangeably.

Closed captioning is typically used for TV broadcasts and films, and almost anything on the internet.  It is needed for the deaf and hard-of-hearing, English language learners, and is very helpful for children learning to read.

Subtitling is used when the source language (original narration) is in a language other than the target audience’s language.

Closed captions can describe sound effects and display song lyrics that reinforce and enhance whatever is happening onscreen.

Closed captions or subtitles provide improved comprehension of the spoken word onscreen and are helpful in clarifying the verbiage of a fast talker, a heavily accented speaker, and/or multiple speakers at one time.  They also improve comprehension of any audio or video for listeners/viewers living in an environment where outside noises are unavoidable.

Closed captioning is a very labor-intensive process but one that is vital for making any audio or video presentation readily available to all listeners/viewers.

TRANSCRIPTION

Providing digital transcription with time code.

A transcript is a written record of the spoken word in an audio or video file.  It is a useful tool in the editing process as a physical record of what has been said in an interview, presentation, panel discussion, et cetera, and is a valuable reference resource.  Any audio or video can be transcribed.

Transcription is a time-consuming process.  The time it takes to create a transcript of a “normal” 30-minute, one-on-one interview is, on average, an hour and a half (90 minutes), and this pertains to an experienced transcriptionist.  The more speakers in an interview, the longer it takes to create a transcript.  The same can be said about a presentation.  A single speaker presentation, 30 minutes long, on average, takes 90 minutes (or more) to transcribe.  If there are multiple speakers, the transcription process can take even longer.

Transcription is a daunting process to anyone who does not have the hardware and software to produce a transcript.  An experienced transcriber is an asset to any company in need of transcripts. Aloha Closed Captioning and Transcription can be that asset for you.
